Depotyze

The building

The depot was designed by architects Claeys / Haelvoet from Kortrijk. It was realised through the collaboration of two investing partners: the City of Ypres and the Province of West Flanders, with the Province as the client. The design was based on the Danish model: a thick insulated outer shell that repels external influences and a non-insulated floor slab inside that buffers temperature fluctuations. No expensive climate control systems are required! The DEPOTYZE heritage depot was awarded the “Publica Award” in May 2017 in the category “most technically innovative public building”.

COOPERATION WITH CO7

The heritage repository is a joint repository. It is a storage facility for collections from various heritage managers in the southern Westhoek region. Half of it is intended for the City of Ypres, the other half for the region under the management of CO7. The repository is also a recognised immovable heritage repository for the storage of archaeological excavation archives and architectural remains. In addition, it serves as an emergency and transit repository for temporary storage (disaster, urgent restoration, death of the owner or discontinuation of a heritage association, etc.).
