In 2017, no fewer than 1,400 primary school children and preschoolers worked on a virtual historical parade... the Y'PARADE.

They take a leap into the past, more specifically to 9 August 1854. On that day, a large procession in honour of Our Lady of Thuyne passed through the streets of Ypres.

Together with visual artist and screenwriter Sven Verhaeghe, the children interpret this parade in a playful and artistic way. They make accessories, build parts of scenes from recycled materials, paint flags and banners, etc. All scenes are filmed and edited into an impressive procession.

Afterwards, the Y'parade will be given a permanent place in the Yper Museum, the first contemporary work of art created by the children of Ypres.
